Making Shoe Clips

Something that has fallen out of favour in recent years is the shoe clip, after all why accessorise your shoes for a different look when you can simply buy a whole new shoe? It was a lovely touch for Charlotte Olympia to ship her shoes with these, and means you can have a bit of Charlotte while wearing all sorts of different outfits.

Now the only thing is, my shoes only came with one of these clips, which means they can’t really be worn on shoes right now. Thankfully they look really easy to make at home and I can show you how to get a little look of luxe at home, in fact these lips are quite Rupert Sanderson look too!

Most things are quite readily available, Hobbycraft has everything you need. The only thing that might pose a challenge to source is clips, but even they were available from Hobbycraft, although they will have to be modified.

You’ll need the following:

• Red Felt
• Red flatbacks
• Earring Clips
• Leather glue
• Masking Tape
• Needle and thread
• Toothpicks
• Pencil
• Shears

Mask of a section of the felt, using the existing shoe clip as a template, mark out the shape twice. Cut them out, and glue together, I prefer using leather glue as it’s elastic once dry, I recommend that you let the glue air for a couple of minutes before comining the two sections.

Next you’ll need to attach your clip, it should be something which is quite easy to sew on, you can use a bit of glue if you’re going belt and braces. Some clips might need modification, and the ones I got needed a fair bit of work, you also may find that the single clip isn’t strong enough, so double up if you wish.

Now the fun part, its simply to glue the flatbacks to match the original design. I recommend using a toothpick or needle to apply glue without making too much mess, I used the same leather glue here.
